Heavy Pistols
Heavy pistols lack the firepower of other weapons: they don't do as much damage and don't hold as much ammo. But they are very accurate, and give some classes their only long range attack ability. Every class can use heavy pistols.
| M-3 Predator Heavy Pistol | ||
| ||
| Description: Reliable, accurate sidearm. Effective versus armor, but weak versus shields and biotic barriers. Manufactured by Elanus Risk Control, the predator is valued as a powerful, deadly, and relatively inexpensive weapon. While it is not generally deployed in the military, due to commonality of kinetic barriers, it's still very popular in the Terminus system where these defenses are less common. | ||
| M-6 Carnifex Hand Cannon | ||
| ||
| Description: Highly accurate and lethal sidearm. Effective against armor; weak against shields and biotic barriers. The Carnifex is a favored sidearm of mercenary leaders and Eclipse mercenary tech specialists. An expensive but powerful weapon. Its marketing materials feature a charging krogan with the solgan "Don't you mist Carnifex was at your side?"
This pistol is very accurate and does more damage than the M-3.
Submachine Guns
Submachine guns are very effective at close range, but are too inaccurate to use at medium or long range. Any class can use submachine guns, except soldiers (they can use assault rifles).
| M-4 Shuriken Submachine Pistol | ||
| ||
| Description: A common but effective submachine gun. Fires three-round bursts, and can be pulsed for a higher rate of fire at the expense of accuracy. Very effective against shields and biotic barriers. As kinetic barriers have grown in popularity, so has the popularity of submachine guns. Manufactured by the Elkoss Combine, the Shuriken Machine Pistol has a reputation for being deadly and easy to use, but is weak against armor. | ||
| M-9 Tempest Submachine Gun | ||
| ||
| Description: Lightweight and easily concealed, this submachine gun fires in long deadly bursts. Very effective against shields and biotic barriers. Inaccurate at long range. Weak against armor. The commonality of kinetic barriers has led to increased demand for rapid-fire weapons like the Tempest. Produced by Elanus Risk Control Services for the Eclipse mercenary band, the Tempest is an expensive but deadly addition to anyone's personal arsenal.
The Tempest is found during the Haestrom mission.
Shotguns
Shotguns are devastating at short range, but ineffective at medium or long range.
| M-27 Scimitar Assault Shotgun | ||
| ||
| Description: An elite militray shotgun capable of rapid fire, this weapon is deadly accurate at short range, but ineffective at long range. Effective against shields and biotic barriers, but weak against armor. The scimitar features twin mass effect generators, giving it a more rapid rate of fire than a traditional shotgun. This weapon was created for the Eclipse mercenary band, but is rapidly becoming popular with Blood Pack mercs as well. | ||
| M-23 Katana Shotgun | ||
| ||
| Description: Common military shotgun. Deadly at short range, but ineffective at long range. Very effective versus shields and biotic barriers, but weak versus armor. Manufactured by Ariake Technologies, the Katana is a common mercenary weapon, and is also popular on colonies with varren infestations.
The Scimitar is similar to the Katana, but holds more ammo. It is found during the mission to recruit Justicar Samara.
| M-300 Claymore Heavy Shotgun | ||
| ||
| Description: This is a prototype weapon. Unlike most other weapons it does not become available to the entire crew when it is unlocked. Shepard can get this heavy shotgun during the Collector Ship mission. It is also unlocked for Grunt when he joins your crew. | ||
| M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun | ||
| No Image Yet |
| |
| Description: The M-22a Eviscerator Shotgun is a longer-range shotgun with armor-piercing loads. This design also violates several intergalactic weapons treaties, so the M-22a is not distributed to militaries.
This weapon is available through the Cerberus Network.
Assault Rifles
Assault rifles' combination of range and firepower make them deadly at any range. They are the most versatile of all weapons. Only soldiers can use assault rifles at the start of the game. Other classes can learn to use them by picking up the assault rifle skill during the course of the game.
| M-8 Avenger Assault Rifle | ||
| ||
| Description: The reliability and effectiveness of the Avenger Assault Rifle in almost any battle condition makes it the weapon of choice for mercenaries and soldiers alike. The Avenger Assault Rifle (and its variants) is a workhorse weapon with low recoil and high accuracy. Its collapsible frame is light, yet substantial, and flexible ammunition load-out allows users to adapt firepower to any opponent-including synthetics.
This rifle has a high rate of fire, but isn't accurate over long ranges.
| M-15a Vindicator Battle Rifle | ||
| ||
| Description: A battle rifle favored by assassins and elite mercenaries that fires in highly accurate five-round bursts and can be pulsed for rapid fire. Deadly at any range, and effective against armor, shields, and biotic barriers.
The Vindicator is far more accurate than the Avenger, and allows you to take out distant targets. It fires in bursts, so it has a lower overall rate of fire, which makes it less effective at close range. But if you are frustrated at the Avenger's inaccuracy, you'll love the Vindicator . It holds only 24 rounds, so it needs to be reloaded often. Overall ammo capacity is lower than the Avenger, so pick up all the ammo you can find.
| X-76c Revenant Machine Gun | ||
| ||
| Description: Unleashes a storm of deadly high-velocity slugs. Less accurate than an assault rifle, but has a high ammo capacity and deals much more damage. Effective against armor, shields, and biotic barriers.
The Revenant is about as accurate as the Avenger, but does tremendous damage. It also holds a huge amount of ammo, so you don't have to worry about running out or frequent reloads. It is incredibly effective at close range. Invest in the accuracy upgrade to extend its effective range. This rifle is available during the Collector Ship mission. This is a prototype weapon. Unlike most other weapons it does not become available to the entire crew when it is unlocked.
| Geth Pulse Rifle | ||
| No Image Yet |
| |
| Description: The Geth Pulse rifle is very effective against shields and biotic barriers. You can find this rifle during the mission on Haestrom when playing on hardcore difficulty or higher. | ||
Sniper Rifles
Sniper rifles are incredibly useful because they allow you to take out enemies at very long range, before they can get close enough to effectively fire at you. They are not very effective at close range, so switch to a different kind of weapon at close range.
| M-92 Mantis Sniper Rifle | ||
| ||
| Description: Powerful sniper rifle, capable of taking out most targets in a single shot. Incredibly accurate at long range, but has a slow rate of fire. Very effective versus armor, but weaker versus shields and biotic barriers. Manufactured by Devlon Industries, the Mantis is primarily used by police and planetary militia groups. The prevalence of kinetic barriers has made this weapon less popular with the military, but it is used more frequently in the Terminus system where these defenses are less common.
It is a single shot weapon. Each time you fire it must be reloaded, and this action switches you out of scope view. It is however very powerful and can kill many enemies with a single headshot.
| M-97 Viper Sniper Rifle | ||
| ||
| Description: Rapid-fire military sniper rifle. Incredibly accurate and deadly at long range, these weapons are popular amongst infiltrators and assassins. Very effective against armor; somewhat effective against shields and biotic barriers.
The Viper is a semi-auto, rapid-fire sniper rifle. It can't kill with one shot, but you can easily kill with two or three quick shots. Unlike the Mantis, you do not leave scope view after each shot, making accurate rapid fire easy. The Viper is found during the mission to recruit Thane Krios.
| M-98 Widow Sniper Rifle | ||
| No Image Yet |
| |
| Description: The Widow is a single-shot rifle, but it does massive damage with each shot.
This is a prototype weapon. Unlike most other weapons it does not become available to the entire crew when it is unlocked. Shepard can get it during the Collector Ship mission.
Heavy Weapons
Heavy Weapons use a special type of ammo. Other ammo types replenish themselves at the start of each mission, but not heavy weapon ammo. You'll need to scavenge this ammo from power cells you find. Because ammo for these weapons is limited, save them for difficult enemies like bosses.
| ML-77 Missile Launcher | ||
| ||
| Description: The missile launcher falls into the Heavy Weapons category of armament and is recommended for engagements where large scale opposition is expected. Single-person portability is retained thanks to the now-standard collapsible design. What makes the missile launcher so effective is that user can fire the weapon from behind cover and the missiles will, within milliseconds, identify, lock onto and track enemies (organic or synthetic). The intended target has only a 6.8% chance (plus or minus, depending on weather conditions and available cover) of evading the impact(s).
The missiles fired by the ML-77 travel slowly, but this isn't a problem because they are guided and usually hit their target. The launcher fires fairly rapidly, so you can have several missiles in the air at once. Against very difficult enemies you will want to fire volleys of missiles to destroy your target quickly. This weapon is created through the upgrade system.
| M-100 Grenade Launcher | ||
| ||
| Description: Rapid-fire grenade launcher favored by the Blood Pack Vorcha Mercenaries. Capable of taking down multiple enemies with a single well-placed shot. Effective against armor, shields, and biotic barriers. | ||
| M-490 Blackstorm Projector | ||
| ||
| Description: The Blackstorm encases a few particles of matter within a high-powered mass-increasing field, elevating them to near-infinite mass and creating a powerful localized gravity well that draws nearby enemies and objects into itself. The rapidly-increasing gravity near the event horizon of the singularity rips the objects apart and then explosively hurls them away. | ||
| M-622 Avalanche | ||
| ||
| Description: Cryo Round technology is used to modify standard weapon slugs. A cooling laser collapses the ammunition into Bose-Einstein condensate, a mass of super-cooled subatomic particles capable of snap-freezing impacted objects. Normandys scientists have found a way to apply this technology on a large scale: by generating a mass effect containment "bubble", this proof-of-concept large weapon technology is effective against armor, shields, and biotic barriers. It is nicknamed the "Cryo-Blaster."
This weapon is created through the upgrade system.
| M-920 Cain | ||
| ||
| Description: The effectiveness and efficiency of mass effect-based weapon technology has rendered large-scale deployment of highly explosive weaponry all but obsolete infantry weapons. Normandy's scientists have prototyped a modified version of traditional high-explosive rounds that is applied to a 25 gram slug. When accelerated to 5 km/s, the round is devastating. Though a technically inaccurate label, this prototype weapon is nicknamed the "Nuke Launcher", and its high-explosive matrix generates an archetypal mushroom cloud on impact. It inflicts high damage with large area of effect. Very effective against armor, shields, and barriers.
The Cain is devastating, but difficult to use. When you pull the trigger the weapon requires a few seconds to power up. When it does fire, it shoots out a projectile. When that projectile hits something, it creates a huge explosion. If you are in the blast radius it will injure or kill you as well. Only aim for targets at least 20 meters away. This weapon is created through the upgrade system.
| Collector Particle Beam | ||
| ||
| Description: Precise and lethal, this focused-radiation weapon is very effective against shields, barriers, and armor. The Collector Particle Beam is a totally alien weapon. It fires a solid beam, and continues shooting the beam for as long as the trigger is held down. Ideal for use against heavily armored and shielded targets (bosses). It uses standard heavy weapon ammunition. It is found during the mission on Haestrom. | ||
| M-451 Firestorm | ||
| ||
| Description: Based on the turian "Hieras" flamethrower, the Firestorm is an anti-personnel and anti-armor flame unit that can accept a wide variety of liquid fuels. The turian design used low-octane hydrocarbons thickened with dentra oil, which is taken from large marine animals similar to Earth's whales. Humans then reverse-engineered a synthetic composite with almost identical properties that could be fabricated from heavy weapon fuel cells using an omni-tool. The result is a sticky spray that burns at approximately 1,600 degrees Celsius, a less intense fire than plasma weapons but covering a significantly wider target area.
The M-451 Firestorm can be found during Zaeed Massani's loyalty quest. Zaeed and his quest are available as a downloadable content pack for Mass Effect 2.
| Arc Projector | ||
| ||
| Description: The Arc Projector ionizes targets with a non-visible laser to ready them for a high-voltage electrical attack. As the lightning-like bolt hits its first target, a sophisticated auto-targeting system paints succeeding targets with the ionization laser, allowing the electricity to take the path of least resistance and arc between them. An entire enemy strike team can be shocked to death with a few pulls of the trigger. Careful aiming will also allow the user to arc shots to nearby explosives as well. | ||
