Table of Contents

Skills, talents, abilities; whatever you called them in the first Mass Effect they are now called Powers. Every class for your Shepard character begins with 6 predetermined powers based on your class while your teammates start with 4 powers.

Although you will gain access to seven total powers, you won't get enough squad points to fully develop all of them. The game has a level cap of 30; once you reach level 30 you will no longer gain levels or squad points. When you hit the level cap you will have a total of 51 squad points, allowing you to fully develop five powers. You can also spread your points among all your powers if you wish.

Starting Powers

Biotic

Charge

Using a damaging shockwave, ram into an enemy with incredible force.

Details: One of the Vanguard's exclusive powers, Charge is deadly attack that plays to their strengths. Performing Charge will send a Vanguard at high speed towards their target. The Vanguard will then slam into the enemy upon impact to cause a lot of damage and send them flying backwards. Know that when this power is activated, the Vanguard will phase through any object between them and their target. You can also target enemies on higher levels or even being suspended in the air by other squadmates.

Use: Charge is not only used for damaging enemies but it's also used to get from one side of the battle to the other almost instantly. Vanguards are they deadliest when they are up close and personal with their enemies. Charge can get them in close instantly so the Vanguard can then pummel enemies with their shotguns. Use Charge to move around the battlefield to avoid have to run across an open area while enemies shoot at you. Additionally, looks for cliffs or ledges and use Charge to knock enemies off them for an instant kill.

Evolution: At rank 4 evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Charge: Your biotic focus is so intense that not only does the charge flatten enemies, your reaction speed is increased, slowing the world around you as you come out of the charge.
  • Area Charge: You mass effect field now bursts on impact, send out energy that can damage multiple opponents and knock them off their feet.

Pull

Levitates enemies, rendering them helpless while they drift towards you.

Details: This biotic power allows Vanguards and Adepts to target an enemy with a rising mass effect field that will lift the enemy into the air. The airborne target will then helplessly float toward whoever hit them with the Pull power. Know that this power does not inflict any damage, it only incapacitates the target.

Use: While Pull does not do any damage to the target, it does completely incapacitate them. Once you hit an enemy with Pull, they will be suspended in the air and float towards you. Use this time to unload your weapons on them while they are unable to move. Know that you can also use other powers on them while they are suspended. Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Pull: Your levitational abilities keep your target suspended longer.
  • Pull Field: Affects all nearby targets, suspending entire groups into the air.

Shockwave

Biotic shockwaves topple enemies in your path.

Details: This biotic power is used by Adepts and Vanguards. Once performed a row of biotic shockwaves stretches out in front of the user that will launch any enemies along its path into the air.

Use: Try to line up multiple enemies in line or simply get them to bunch together then unleash the Shockwave power. It will knock most enemies off their feet which prevents them from attacking until they can stand back up.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Shockwave: Your shockwave's power strengthens to become a biotic freight train, swatting aside everything in a long path
  • Improved Shockwave: Your shockwave now has a wider impact radius, taking out everything in a broad strip in front of you.


Singularity

A dark energy sphere that pulls in enemies.

Details: You launch a dark energy sphere to create an intense mass effect field; enemies are drown into the singularity and held briefly helpless.

Use: The sphere travels to where you shoot it; it does not home in on a particular target. This can actually help you use this ability like a land mine. Shoot it to a place where your enemy must cross, and they will walk into it.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Singularity: Your singularity sphere can hold numerous enemies helpless for a long period.
  • Wide Singularity: Your singularity sphere's gravitational pull radius increases.

Warp

Rips enemies apart at the molecular level and stops health regeneration. Effective against armor and biotic barriers.

Details: A mass effect field damages enemy targets and stops health regeneration. Detonates any biotic powers already affecting the target (such as Pull or Singularity), causing further damage. Effective against armor and biotic barriers.

Use: Does direct damage to the target, and to nearby targets.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Warp: Your Warp damage is hugely increased.
  • Unstable Warp: Increases the blast radius when warp detonates biotic effects.


Throw

Hurls enemies though the air using a powerful biotic field.

Details: Using mass effect fields, hurls targets away and damages them if they hit objects.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Throw: Fling a single enemy with unparalleled momentum, smashing it against walls with hurricane force.
  • Throw Field: Throw Field: Your mastery of biotic throws allows you to hurl multiple targets into the air simultaneously.

Combat

Adrenaline Rush

Hyper accelerates your reflecses, giving you time to line up the perfect shot.

Details: Boosts your combat awareness for a brief time, slowing your enemies by comparison.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Hardened Adrenaline Rush: Your endorphins block out pain and trauma in addition to speeding your reaction time. Health damage is reduced for the power's duration.
  • Heightened Adrenaline Rush: Your reaction time is the stuff of legends. When you are "on." enemies seem to stand still.

Concussive Shot

A massive blast that propels enemies with bone crushing force.

Details: An explosive shot knocks down and damiges your opponents, leaving them open for additional attacks.

Use: Against biotic barriers, the effectiveness of Concussive Shot is 3.5 times that of the normal effect.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following.

  • Heavy Concussive Shot: Significantly increases the power of your Concussive Shot, blasting enemies off their feet.
  • Concussive Blast: High energy explosive charges give your shot an inpact radius large enauth to knock down multiple enemies.

Cryo Ammo

Freezes enemies, allowing you to shatter them with gunfire or biotics.

Details: This ammo's payload of supercooled subatomic particles can snap freeze a target in place, making it vulnerable to extra damage.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Improved Cryo Ammo: The apex of cryogenic rouds, this ammunition freezes targets more frequently and for a longer duration.
  • Squad Cryo Ammo: Your entire squad gains the cryo ammo's effects, letting you incapacitate large groups or relentlessly hammer one target.

Disruptor Ammo

Rips through shields and shreads synthetic targets

Details: This ammunition shreads shields an sinthetic enemies while overheating a targets wepons. Synthetics may be briefly incacitated afrer a solid hit.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Disruptor Ammo: This ammunition's electromagnetic properties can cause synthetics to critically overload and explode.
  • Squad Disruptor Ammo: Each member of your squad gains the Disruptor Ammo's effects, allowing you to catch synthetics in deadly crossfires.

Incendiary Ammo

Burns through armor, sets enemies on fire, and damages health.

Details: Burns and wounds rganic targets, blocking health regeneration, damping armor, and making unshielded enemies panic. Synthetic enemies are more resistant to fire damage.

Use: The anti-regeneration quality is a quite helpful against charging Krogan and Vorcha.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Inferno Ammo: An explosive charge spreads the ammunition's payload on impact, potentially igniting the target and all nearby enemies.
  • Squad Incendiary Ammo: Each member of your squad gains the effect of your incendiaries, allowing you to spread pain and panic in a very literal crossfire.

Tech

AI Hacking

Turns synthetic enemies against their own allies.

Details: Temporarily hacks a synthetic enemy to attack its former allies. Also generates a temporary shield around the hacked target so it can fight more effectively against its former allies.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Improved AI Hacking: Your AI Hacking provides the ultimate in shield strength and maintains it for a very long hack duration.
  • Area AI Hacking: Your wireless signal is boosted in strength, affecting a wide area to hack multiple robots.

Combat Drone

Command your very own battle drone.

Details: Spawns a tech drone to draw enemy fire. The drone can electrically stun targets briefly and damage their shields. Only one drone can be active at a time.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Attack Drone: You have upgraded the combat drone so its electric shock damages health, armor, and biotic barriers.
  • Explosive Drone: Your combat drone is rigged to explode when destroyed, pulsing energy that inflicts high damage on all nearby enemies.

Cryo Blast

Snap-freezes your targets.

Details: Your omni-tool fires a mass of super-cooled subatomic particles capable of snap-freezing impacted targets.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Deep Cryo Blast: The blast potency and freeze duration are equal to advanced cryogenic weapons.
  • Full Cryo Blast: This cryo weapon's spray effect is engineered to maximize your chances of freezing multiple targets.

Incinerate

Exploding flame damages the health and armor of anyone nearby.

Details: The explosive plasma blast inflicts damage over time to all nearby enemies and permanently stops their health regeneration. Very effective against armor.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Incinerate: This advanced plasma blast burns through nearly anything it hits.
  • Incinerate Blast: The splash zone on this plasma blast is increased, allowing you to scorch multiple targets.

Overload

Massive energy blasts overpower shields and synthetic enemies.

Details: You fire an electromagnetic pulse that inflicts massive damage on shields and synthetic enemies, briefly stuns synthetic foes if the target's resistances are down and also has the capability to overheat enemy weapons.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Overload: Your pulse now damages synthetic enemies so brutally that they explode on "death."
  • Area Overload: You have increased your pulse's strength to cover a wide area, make it easy to hit multiple targets.

Tactical Cloak

To your enemies, you're invisible.

Details: Activates a cloaking field that prevents most enemies from perceiving you for a short time and if you do not attack, your cloak lasts slightly longer.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Assassination Cloak: You are a master of the hidden strike, gaining a huge bonus to damage if you attack while cloaked.
  • Enhanced Cloak: You have modified your cloak's power cells to stay hidden for extended periods, useful for bypassing enemies or setting up a strike.

Tech Armor

Energy-charged armor that boosts your shields and detonates a damaging energy wave when destroyed.

Details: Generates an energy armor suit that boosts your shields. When the armor is destroyed, it sends out a pulse of energy, knocking back and damaging all nearby enemies.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Assault Armor: Greatly increases the effect of the energy pulse when the armour gets destroyed, increasing its damage, force and radius.Also provides a shield boost when the armour gets destroyed.
  • Power Armor: Greatly increases the armour's strength, and provides a damage bonus to all powers while the armour is active.

Class Powers

These powers are only available to their corresponding class.

Assault Mastery

Be faster, fiercer, and more powerful on the battlefield.

Class: Vanguard

Details: Your relentless fighting style increases your weapon damage, reduces your power recharge time, and increases your Paragon and Renegade scores.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Destroyer: Your weapon inflicts even more damage, and your receive a damage bonus to biotic powers
  • Champion: Your staying power lets you survive marathons of combat. Power-recharging time and Paragon and Renegade scores are improved still further, and you receive a bonus to your biotic power duration.

Biotic Mastery

Unleashes your biotic power faster, quicker, and with more intensity.

Class: Adept

Details: Your mental focus allows you to use biotic powers more often, ind increases your Paragon/Renegade scores.

Use: Each rank increases health 5%, decreases power recharge time 5%, and increases your Paragon or Renegade scores by 20%.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Bastion: All your powers last longer and take less time to recharge; Paragon/Renegade scores increase.
  • Nemesis: Your biotic powers do more damage and take less time to recharge.

Combat Mastery

Makes you tougher, stronger, faster, and more charismatic.

Class: Soldier

Details: Your superior training improves your health, weapon damage, storm speed, and Paragon/Renegade scores.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Commando: Your killing intent is ever-present, increasing weapon damage and storm speed, and giving a damage bonus to powers.
  • Shock Trooper: Your survival instinct grants you an intense concentration that further increases weapon damage and storm speed, and gives a duration bonus to powers.

Defender

Fine-tunes your brain, making your powers more potent and efficient.

Class: Sentinel

Details: A balance of mental conditioning and scientific know-how improves the recharge time of your powers and your Paragon and Renegade scores.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Guardian: You excel under stress, reducing your recharge time as far as it will go and your forceful personality takes your Paragon and Renegade scores to the maximum level.
  • Raider: You specialize in using your engineering and biotics as weapons, reducing recharge time a small amount further and giving a bonus to your power damage.

Operative

Your weapon damage is more punishing and frequent, and targeting enemies is easier.

Class: Infiltrator

Details: Your harsh training regimen increases weapon damage, reduces power-recharging time, and gives a time dilation effect while entering sniper zoom. Also increases Paragon and Renegade scores.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Assassin: Your focus in sniper zoom is enhanced, and you receive a damage bonus to all weapons and powers.
  • Agent: Your endurance and mental fortitude reduce the recharge time of powers, and give a bonus to their duration. Your Paragon and Renegade scores reach their highest level.

Tech Mastery

Makes your creative powers faster, flashier, and more frequent.

Class: Engineer

Details: Your engineering is more efficient, reducing the recharge time of your powers. Your mental focus increases your Paragon and Renegade scores.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Demolisher: Specializing in combat operations, you reduce recharge time on all powers and receive a bonus to their damage. Your Paragon and Renegade scores receive their final bonus.
  • Mechanic: Your powers are incredibly efficient; they recharge faster and last longer. Your Paragon and Renegade scores receive their final bonus.

Barrier

Creates a shield that soaks huge amounts of damage.

Details: Creates a mass effect shield that lasts a few seconds and can absorb a large amount of damage.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Barrier: Increases strength of Barrier to absorb more damage.
  • Improved Barrier: Increases duration of Barrier.

Reave

Damages target's nervous or synthetic system to prevent healing. Restores health and gives a temporary health bonus when the power is used against organics. Reave also does double damage to armor and barriers.

Details: Biotically attacks the target's nervous or synthetic system and disables any health regeneration. When used against organics, this field regenerates the biotic's health and provides a temporary health bonus. Reave also does double damage to armor and barriers.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Reave: The biotic focuses on snuffing out a single target's life, increasing the Reave's strength, duration, and damage.
  • Area Reave: The biotic becomes a vortex of life, increasing the Reave's radius to affect multiple targets.

Slam

A biotic body-slam that inflicts massive damage.

Details: Biotically lifts the target and slams them to the ground, inflicting massive damage.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Heavy Slam: Your slam's force is prodigious and causes grievous bodily harm.
  • Crippling Slam: You forego brute force and instead slam the target on its most vulnerable points, incapacitating the opponent for some time after impact.

Squad Class Powers

These powers are all character specific to Shepard's teammates. This means only that one squadmate character can utilize their particular power.

Asari Justicar

Increases Samara's combat skills, weapon damage, and health; improves her power recharge time.

Details: Samara's monastic training improves her health, weapon damage, and the recharge time of her powers.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Sapiens Justicar: Samara's biotic abilities now rival those of an asari Matriarch, further reducing the recharge time of her powers.
  • Caedo Justicar: Samara's time spent honing her lethal skills, increasing her weapon damage.

Cerberus Officer

Hones Miranda's combat skills, weapons damage, and health; entire squad receives a combat bonus.

Drell Assassin

Increases Thane's combat skills, weapon damage, and health.

Details: Thane's expertise in assassination and prolonging his life improves his effective health and weapon damage.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Drell Marksman: Thane's anatomical expertise and unerring aim increases his weapon damage beyond its already extraordinary level.
  • Drell Veteran: Thane's experience surviving life-threatening wounds increases his effective health.


Geth Infiltrator

Augments Legion's combat skills and weapon damage; improves its power recharge time.

Details: Legion Continually upgrades its combat matrices, improving its health, weapon damage, and the recharge time of its powers.

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Geth Assassin: Legion has become an expert at disassembly organics and synthetics alike, increasing Legion's weapon damage.
  • Geth Trooper: Legion has created redundant systems for its critical functions, increasing its health.

Krogan Mercenary

Enhances Grunt's weapon damage and health; gives him krogan health regeneration.

Details: Grunt's blood rage increases his health and weapon damage, and gives him krogan health regeneration.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Krogan Pureblood: Grunt's mastery of his blood rage increases his already fantastic regeneration rate, letting him survive wounds that would kill other krogan
  • Krogan Warlord: Grunt can go berserk without losing his lethal focus, increases his weapon damage.

Quarian Machinist

Sharpens Tali's combat skills and weapon damage; lengthens her power duration.

Details: Tali's continual practice and conditioning increases her health, weapon damage, and the duration of her powers.

  • Quarian Engineer: Tali is operating at peak efficiency, increasing the duration of her powers. Modest cybernetics and immuno-enhancers increase her health.
  • Quarian Mechanic: Tali's expertise in engineering firearms of all kinds increases her weapon damage. Modest cybernetics and immuno-enhancers increase her health.

Salarian Scientist

Strengthens Mordin's combat skills, weapon damage, health, and shields.

Details: Mordin's tinkering with weapons, drugs and technology increases his health, weapon damage, and the strength of his shields.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Salarian Genius: Mordin's technical breakthroughs further increase the strength of his shields.
  • Salarian Savant: Mordin's study of ballistics, physics, and shock trauma increases his weapon damage.


Subject Zero

Enhances Jack's weapon damage and health; improves her power recharge time.

Details: Jack's experimentation with her unique abilities increases her health and weapon damage, and reduces the recharge time of her powers.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Primal Adept: Jack can push her biotic abilities to the limit, greatly reducing recharge time of her powers.
  • Primal Vanguard: Jack focuses her ruthless energy into combat, heightening her weapon damage.

Turian Rebel

Enhances Garrus' combat skills, weapon damage, and health; makes his powers more damaging.

Details: Garrus' expertise in the rigors of combat increase his health, as well as his damage with weapons and powers of all kinds.

Use:

Evolution: Evolves into one of the following options:

  • Turian Renegade: If it can be fired, Garrus knows how to use it. His weapons and power damage increases dramatically.
  • Turian Survivor: Long hours alone against impossible odds have conditioned Garrus' health, and kept his powers sharp.
